1.  Think about it….when did we declare our independence from Great Britain?

On the 4th of July in 1776 right? Nope, wrong, it was actually on July 2nd. In fact, John Adams expected that to be our national independence day. day.

2.  When was the Declaration of Independence SIGNED?

On July 4th, 1776, right?  WRONG.

It was actually signed over a 6 month period by 56 different people and most of them signed it on August 2nd 1776. It was FORMALLY ADOPTED byt the Continental Congress on July 4th.

3.  The Declarations was first publicly read on July 8th, 1776 and it was in Philadelphia.They rang the Liberty Bell to summon people to Independence Hall for the reading.

4.  Who was the last person to sign the Declaration of Independence?

John McKean was the last person to sign the Declaration, in January of 1777.
